On Phone. One can easily reverse search an image on their Android phone using a third-party app called Reverse Image Search, as follows. Currently, Google doesn’t offer an option to perform “Reverse Video Search”. Google has rolled out the “Reverse Image Search” feature only. But you can follow …

Have you ever found a funny clip online and wanted to find the original video, but didn’t know how? Or maybe you saw a snippet of a movie and it got you, but frustratingly you couldn’t figure out what that movie was called?

The solution is reverse video search – thanks to computer magic, there are now ways to find what you are looking for using video. It’s similar to googling something, but instead of typing in words or phrases, you submit a video file that the search engine parses and tries to match the content of its databases.

We recommend using an online video trimmer to shorten your video file as submitting a smaller file size will make search engine analysis much faster.

What is the best way to search a video using an image?
It will likely take some investigative work. A few things you can try are:

Reverse image search: Try both Tineye Reverse Image Search and Google’s Find related images with reverse image search
Comics through the results. You may get lucky and find a page showing that image as a screenshot from the video.

If not, look into the metadata (EXIF/ITPC) of the photo by using Metapicz online metadata and EXIF viewer
That could give you info (the date the picture was taken, descriptions or keywords, possibly even location) to help Barrie down your search.
When all else fails, try reaching out to communities (subreddits, slack channels, etc.) relevant to the subject of the picture. Someone may recognize it.

Is it possible to have a search engine that can “Reverse video search”?

It is possible, but is not likely to happen for a few more years.

The exception is to search for a copy of the exact same video file, which is fairly trivial. YouTube started doing that years ago to prevent duplicate uploads. I believe it’s checksum based, so you can get around it very easily by changing a single pixel in a single frame and rendering the video again.

But that technology is not very useful in a search engine application. There, you need to be able to do a fuzzy compare of frames in the video. That means that to index a video, you’d have to extract each frame. Then index each frame in a similar manner to what search engines do for images today, storing some representation of the image that their computer vision algorithms can process easily. They would perhaps want to add some video specific computer vision algorithms for tracking movements between frames, etc. as well.

It’s technically possible, but with the insane amount of video published on the Internet every second, you’ll have a hard time keeping up with indexing it all, and both the indexing and searching would require enough computing power that it’s probably not financially viable just yet. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the next 5-10 years tough.

Computationally speaking, videos have time (frames change every n frames per second) instead of just 2D array information on images. This will make the information that is needed to be searched exponentially more. I think GPGPU and various supercomputing technologies are needed for this task at the current level of computing power.

Prevent images in your page from showing up searching results

For convenient removal

Make use of the Remove URLs tool. You need to see results fairly rapidly.

For non-emergency image removal(Remove URLs Tool)

To avoid images out of your site showing up in Google’s search engine results, give a robots.txt file towards the cause of the server that blocks the look. It requires longer to get rid of a picture from search engine results compared to Remove URLs tool, but is definitely an Internet standard that is applicable to any or all search engines like google, and you’ve got more flexible control by using wildcards or subpath obstructing.

For instance, if you would like Google to exclude the dogs.a digital image that seems on your site at world wide yoursite.com, add some following for your robots.txt file:

  • User-agent: Googlebot-Image
  • Disallow: /images/dogs.digital
  • Next time Google crawls your website, we’ll check this out the directive and drop your image from your search engine results.
  • To get rid of all of the images in your site from your index put the following robots.txt file inside your server root:
  • User-agent: Googlebot-Image
  • Disallow: /

Furthermore, Google features elevated versatility towards the robots.txt file standard with the use asterisks. Disallow designs can include “*” to complement any sequence of figures, and designs may finish in “$” to point the finish of the name. To get rid of all files of the specific file type (for instance, to incorporate .digital although not .gif images), you’d make use of the following robots.txt entry:

User-agent: Googlebot-Image

Disallow: /*.gif$

By indicating Googlebot-Image because the User-agent, the pictures is going to be excluded from Google Image Search. It will likewise prevent popping from the image for display within Mobile Image Search, because the image is going to be completely taken off Google’s Image index. If you’d like to exclude the pictures all Google searches (including Google web search and Google Images), specify User-agent Googlebot.
